Before the course starts, contact me at lpayne@broward.edu

Note: If the course is full, I will not add students with blue-cards. Watch the enrollment right before the semester begins when some students drop the course, opening a position to which you can register. No students can add the course after the add/drop period. Please if you are not going to be in the course remove yourself from the roster before the course begins so someone else may take your spot.

Required Book:

Exploring Art: A Global, Thematic Approach, 4th Edition, by Lazzari and Schlesier, Cengage Learning. All the below books have an Access Card to Coursemate, which has study tests, flashcards, and some short videos, which will help you do well in the course.

To directly order the book as an ebook with a credit card, which I recommend because its less expensive (about $70), go to:

www. cengagebrain.com/isbn/1111343829

If you use the above way to get your book, you should have it in a few minutes after your credit card clears.

If you want a paper book go to the bookstore on Central Campus: ISBN 1111343780

If you want an ebook from the bookstore: ISBN 1111343802

Note: You may need to use the bookstore for financial aid.

Brief Description of the Course:

Art Appreciation is an introductory course considering form and content in world art. The course emphasizes ways to look at and understand art. We examine how art is made and its meaning. This course meets your General Education requirement. It is not a writing credit course, but as in all general education courses, we do writing.

The online course requires you to read and do weekly tests or discussions. A museum visit and essay are required. Students in developmental reading and writing should expect to work longer on all assignments.

Once the Course starts:

Course Content Page: Course activities and requirements are linked to your Course Content Page or Homepage. Click on the appropriate unit icon and follow the links for discussions, tests, assignments, lessons, and electronic chapters.Weekly dates are indicated on the unit icons.

Email: During the course you must use the email within the Blackboard program.

My Grades: Your grades are posted here. They are available the week after you submit them.

First Week, Unit 1 (due the dates given on the Content Unit):

(Note: You need your book to do the following.)

The first week you must participate by doing discussions and tests as proof of attendance. If you do not participate, you will be withdrawn from the course with a “WN” grade. This is usually after the full-refund date. Students who are withdrawn with a WN must repay financial aid.

You may withdraw yourself from the course until the last day to withdraw and receive a “W” (see your semester calendar or the Unit Page for the withdrawal date). Students who withdraw have to repay financial aid.

If you stop participating for three consecutive weeks before the withdrawal date, you will be withdrawn with a “W” and you will have to repay financial aid.

If you stop participating after the withdrawal date, you will receive a WF, which is computed as an F in your grade-point-average. Students who receive WF or F grades may have to repay financial aid and may be disqualified from financial aid in the future.

Orientation Learning Outcomes:

Students completing the orientation will be able to: Login to Blackboard, access the course syllabus, participate in a test and discussion, and use your textbook.
